Oil & Gas
Server Monitoring Implementation
Project Background & Scope
A major global oil producer aimed to consolidate and centralize monitoring of its worldwide IT infrastructure for improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Project Outcome
The client was already utilizing System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) at several international sites. Since SCOM supports multi-site environments, a single centralized instance was deployed at the company’s headquarters. Individual sites were then systematically migrated into this unified platform.
Previously, each site independently managed its own monitoring configurations and Management Pack adjustments. Under the new centralized model, monitoring responsibilities were outsourced. To support this transition, comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were developed for alert handling and for submitting monitoring adjustment requests.
Additionally, the client’s network monitoring was handled by a dedicated team using SolarWinds. To enhance collaboration and streamline issue resolution, structured processes and SOPs were established to guide interaction between the SolarWinds and SCOM teams.
Client Benefits
-
Reduced operational costs by consolidating multiple SCOM instances into a single centralized platform
-
Improved resource efficiency by shifting monitoring responsibilities from specialized technicians to Help Desk personnel
-
Enhanced coordination between network and server monitoring teams, leading to faster issue resolution
